Creatives for Mental Health didn’t start as a plan.
It started as a moment.
One day, in the middle of a conversation I was having with God in the shower, I felt a nudge...clear and unexpected:
Create a mental health art show.
I laughed.
Really? Right now?
At the time, I was already deeply involved in community work; advocating for marginalized communities, creating content around mental health, and using my voice in the ways I knew how.
But this felt different.
It wasn’t just about speaking on mental health.
It was about creating a space where people could feel, see, and experience it.
What began as a single idea became something bigger.
With the support of friends, family, and community, that vision grew into something tangible, something that people could walk into, connect with, and be moved by.
And from that moment, Creatives for Mental Health was born.
Not just as an organization, but as a response to a deeper need!
For spaces that feel human.
For access that feels real.
For experiences that remind people they are not alone.
Dr. Valerie Revolus, DNP, PMHNP-BC, PMH-C, is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner specializing in women's reproductive mental health, educator, and creative whose work lives at the intersection of mental health, storytelling, and community experience.
Her work is deeply rooted in addressing the gaps that exist in how mental health is accessed and experienced, particularly within marginalized Black and Brown communities, where wellness spaces are often either inaccessible or never introduced.
In a time where social media often highlights luxury approaches to self-care, Valerie’s focus is grounded in something more immediate and essential:
What can people access right now?
Through Creatives for Mental Health, she creates spaces that introduce practical, accessible tools such as breathwork, reflection, and grounding, while integrating the arts as a pathway for emotional expression and understanding.
Her approach bridges clinical insight and creative experience, expanding the ways individuals engage with their mental health beyond traditional settings.
With a strong passion for maternal mental health, her work also centers the emotional experiences of women navigating pregnancy, postpartum, and identity, creating space for conversations that are often unspoken.
At its core, her work is about creating environments where people feel seen, supported, and able to explore their inner world in ways that feel human, accessible, and real.
